A Matter of Heart — Live Performance with the Zest Collective
Live performance of A Matter of Heart by Pax Humana (Brian Lindgren & Samir Zarif), in collaboration with choreographer Gentry Isaiah George and the Zest Collective dance company, with set design by Brian Reed. February 21–22, 2014.
The event included a gallery hour with the original music, a Q&A on the creative process, the live dance premiere with an improvised score, and a DJ set by Pax Humana.
The dance was a 20–25 minute abstract piece developed in silence — a story of love and love lost with a ritual feel, featuring dancers partially covered in gold leaf and clay, set among Brian Reed’s sculptures. The improvised live score (viola/violin and saxophone) was atmospheric and without set tempo or melody, following the Merce Cunningham approach of developing music and dance independently.
