Live Performance — The Alchemical Theater, New York, NY February 21–22, 2014
A live presentation of A Matter of Heart in collaboration with choreographer Gentry Isaiah George and the Zest Collective dance company, with set design by Brian Reed.
The event featured a gallery hour with the original music, a Q&A on the creative process, the live dance premiere with an improvised score, and a DJ set by Pax Humana.
The dance performance was a 20–25 minute abstract piece developed in silence by the dancers — a story of love and love lost with a ritual feel, featuring dancers partially covered in gold leaf and clay, set among Brian Reed’s sculptures. Following the Merce Cunningham approach, music and dance were developed independently: the improvised sound score (viola/violin and saxophone) was atmospheric, without set tempo or melody, responding to the dancers’ actions in real time.
