The EV: A New Digital/Acoustic Hybrid Stringed Synthesizer
The EV: A New Digital/Acoustic Hybrid Stringed Synthesizer
Demo presentation at the 2022 NIME (New Interfaces for Musical Expression) Conference.
Abstract:
The EV represents an innovative 3D-printed instrument combining digital and acoustic technologies. It features FFT convolution algorithms combined with a unique and expressive synthesizer to achieve gritty and textured realism. The instrument employs pitch-tracking technology that provides both accuracy and low latency, addressing historical challenges with MIDI stringed instruments. As a fretless stringed instrument, it enables the creation of synthesized music of any particular tuning system, expanding beyond Western twelve-tone scale constraints. The EV offers parametric adjustability across synthesizers, transfer functions, and FFT engines, providing extensive creative control.
